Research suggests that almost half of the Irish population is deficient in Vitamin D. Signs that maybe associated with Vitamin D deficiency include bone pain, lower back pain, muscle aches, weakness and cramps, fatigue and tiredness, low mood, depression, frequent respiratory infections. Spending too much time indoors, following a vegan or vegetarian diet, having a darker skin tone, suffering from cystic fibrosis, coeliac disease, Chron’s disease, kidney or liver disease all leave you at risk of being deficient in Vitamin D. Other risk factors are smoking, obesity, gastric bypass surgery, high atmospheric pollution and aging.
